Philippians 4:5-9
4:5 | Let your moderation be known unto all men. The Lord is at hand. (The definition of moderation is to be within reasonable limits. In other words, we are to live well within the boundaries of God’s Word…not seeing how close to the edge we can live, keeping in mind that the coming of the Lord is soon!).
4:6 | Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. (Tell the Lord everything that is on your heart; don’t hold back. Give Him your problems…all of them! He WANTS to help you with them. Isn’t it comforting to know that the Master of the universe cares about everything you are going through and is big enough to solve every dilemma you face IF you will turn to Him and walk in His Word?)
4:7 | And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. (I cannot even begin to say what this Scripture means to me…the kind of peace that can ONLY be found in Christ the Lord. There is no other peace like that! The devil can provide only false peace. God alone is able to provide true and lasting peace…peace that passeth all understanding!)
4:8 | Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things. (God used Paul to tell us exactly what our minds should be dwelling on. No matter what is going on in the world around us, if we will keep our minds focused on these things, we will enjoy true peace. Are we following this command? Read it again...)
4:9 | Those things, which ye have both learned, and received, and heard, and seen in me, do: and the God of peace shall be with you. Notice the commandment followed by a promise! Commandment…to DO the things we have learned, received, heard and seen from the Word and through those over us in the Lord. Promise…if we do those things THEN we have the PROMISE that the peace of God will be with us. |
Are you searching for peace tonight? Are you going through a storm? Even in the most terrible of troubled times, God wants us to have His peace...the peace that passeth all understanding...Lord, let it be so!
