In studying for a Sunday school lesson about the body, I thought about how Adam was formed from the dust of the earth. It made me begin to wonder how the content of the body compares to the earth’s contents. What I found was exciting and completely supports the TRUTH that God MADE man!
The surface of the earth contains most of the nutrients our bodies need. The chemical makeup of a rock is amazingly similar to the composition of the human body…imagine that! Does that not make perfect sense seeing how God formed man from the dust of the earth.
What are these similarities? Our BODIES are made up mostly of water…about 72 percent by weight. The surface of the EARTH is about 75 percent water. About six percent of the human body is a combination of chemical compounds such as calcium, phosphorous, potassium, sulfur, sodium, chlorine, magnesium, and iron. The earth’s crust is made up of about eight percent elements. There are numerous elements in the earth, but only eight make up the major portion of the surface of the earth. Some of these are oxygen, iron, calcium, magnesium, sodium, and potassium. Our bodies are 20 percent solid tissue and bone. Teeth and bones of course are composed of calcium phosphate. Iron is a very common element in rocks and critical to our good health. When we inhale, the oxygen in the air is bonded to the iron contained in hemoglobin. See how this all fits together considering from what man was made?
What does the Bible say about it? Genesis 2:4-7 tells us, “These are the generations of the heavens and of the earth when they were created, in the day that the LORD God made the earth and the heavens, And every plant of the field before it was in the earth, and every herb of the field before it grew: for the LORD God had not caused it to rain upon the earth, and there was not a man to till the ground. But there went up a mist from the earth, and watered the whole face of the ground. And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.”
Imagine this…there was no rain…the water came up from within the earth and watered the ground giving it the perfect amount of water…and THAT is the earth out of which God formed man. God did not just trace a shape onto the ground like drawing around a human shape or tracing a stick figure. No…He FORMED man. What did He do then? He did something that made all the difference…He breathed the breath of life into him…into the shape that He had formed out of the dust of the ground. And in around 6000 years or so since the earth was created, the composition of man has not changed but is the same makeup as when God formed the first man all those years ago! The human body is a strong testimony to and of our God and Creator and helps dispel the myth of evolution. Indeed, we are fearfully and wonderfully MADE!
Psalm 139:14, “I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well.” Isn’t that something to praise God for?
